  1. I factory reset my phone after that when tried to login wechat they asked me to identify friends as,i failed to identify friends, now i can’t login wechat is there any way to get back my account.

    1. Not unless you can identify your own friends. WeChat thinks you’re trying to access someone else’s account, right? This usually happens when you’re trying to log in from a different country or geographic area. You’ll have to get a new account, that’s the only solution. Thanks for commenting.

  2. Hi,
I cant Log in my Wechat .. How to recover back my old ID if i didnt link with my phone number & Email??
i have tried few ways to recover back my old ID but still failed.

What can i do right now??

    1. You can’t do anything, sorry. Think of it this way: If you were trying to get into someone else’s WeChat account, you’d be in the same position as you are now. If you didn’t link anything to your account, how did you get it in the first place? You must have used an email or a phone number, maybe QQ. There is no way that WeChat will let you into an account unless they know that you are the owner of that account. That makes sense, right? Otherwise people would be stealing accounts left and right. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  3. Never set up the WeChat ID.
Tried to unblock but got asked name and address. After filling it in, no response from the App after hitting the continue button. What should I do?

Also tried the forgot WeChat ID option, it ask for name, passport #. What?

Please help to unblock my account

    1. We hear about the passport number request sometimes but that seems to be only in China. The other possibility is that you have a virus or malware on your phone. As far as we know, no company or person would ever ask for your passport number as verification. Someone who is attempting to steal your identity might but not a legitimate company or person. Even the government wouldn’t ask you, except for passport renewal. Inside China, things are different, from what we’ve heard from other users. If a Westerner is in China, they can set up the WeChat wallet with their bank. This might require passport numbers but that is only between the customer and the bank.
If you’ve never set up a WeChat ID, you can’t be blocked, right? Make sure you’ve got the right app from the app store, the real one not one of the variants that are out there. Alternatively, try using a QQ login. That might be easier. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

    1. There’s nothing we can do. Plead your case to WeChat. Maybe they will restore your account. We don’t think they will but it’s worth a try. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  4. I’m traveling in China on business and keep getting notices that my account has been reported and I temporarily cannot access certain features like “People Nearby”. I’m not violating any policies on Wechat. I don’t sent rude messages, use profanity, or post pornographic images. Things that I can understand would cause me to get reported and/or banned. I attempted to contact Wechat support but was unsuccessful. I can still chat with my friends and access Wechat, but social features are blocked. Any idea why this is happening to me? My account does not appear compromised. It’s very frustrating.

    1. You’ll never be able to contact WeChat, we don’t think anyone can. The only time WeChat has responded to us is when we Tweeted directly to them. We assume that you’re using WiFi to connect to WeChat. If you’re not, you’re at the mercy of any service provider’s whims. If you can still use your account, leave it at that. Maybe someone found you on People Nearby and reported you for some reason. Perhaps it would be a good idea to get a separate phone in China and use it for another WeChat account. Add some contacts and then drop it when you leave. Anyway, good luck and thanks for commenting.

  5. Several problems with WeChat-
1-My original WeChat account was permanently banned citing the account has seriously violated WeChat policy. The original account was created from a foreign cell phone number. I have never committed any such violation and am completely innocent. My original account seems to have encountered security issues when I traveled to Vietnam. The only thing I have done is tried multiple times unsuccessfully except for once to recover my account. The only reason I needed to recover it is because they blocked it, nothing illegal done by me. The one time it was recovered it was then promptly reblocked and then permanently banned.
***2- When I got back to China I created a new WeChat from a Chinese cell phone number and now again it looks like Wechat is trying to block it- I entered my old password twice by mistake, then the third time I entered the correct password and I get the erroneous message that my account is logged in via an unofficial version of WeChat, my account has now been set to protected status and that I need to “verify my account and try to login again.” ((So I went to their official app on WeChat.com and I am taken to the exact same app I have already downloaded, so it is not an unofficial app.)) When I try to “verify my account” I am asked for a phone number to reset and then send a message, enter a code etc, and then it asks me for my ID card and recent address! I have never been asked this before on a reset. ***What is this ID card (it’s not my WeChat user ID and I tried making something up but it says it was wrong, is it perhaps my phone number?) And how would WeChat know if my address is correct or not, I have never given it to them before, so can anything be entered? I think WeChat is playing games with me and it’s very frustrating! Also all my messages to WeChat contact forum (in English) were never answered- over a week since I sent it. The only other way to contact may be QQ but that’s all in Chinese.

    1. Offhand, we’d say that you have some kind of virus or malware on your phone, not the WeChat app but something else, and that this app is trying to steal your identity. The more information you give, the more they know about you. Start fresh with a new phone, a new account and a new number. Everything else is lost, we think. There may be some restrictions in China that we don’t know about, the address part specifically, but we can’t imagine why WeChat needs to know that or your ID number. It’s not WeChat that is playing games. Your phone and your other accounts have been compromised, probably through something you installed or maybe in a message you received, something like that. Start fresh. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

    2. this same thing has happened to my newly acquired wechat account. I live in the U.S. and downloaded wechat to communicate with my daughter who is traveling out side of the U.S. After downloading it two days ago and using it to speak to only two people (my daughter and my ex husband) , I have been locked out of it now and it keeps telling me the same things as the man in the blog above. I have had no problems with my phone unil now and suspect that it is wechat that has let a virus into my phone. Terrible thing is my daughter sent a pic of her and I can’t even recover it now. I am reporting wechat for this if my phone is indeed infected. I am having it checked tomorrow at my local provider.

      1. WeChat is safe, it didn’t infect your phone. What might have happened is that your daughter’s phone was infected somehow and the photo she sent wasn’t really a photo. That’s a distinct possibility. Depending on what part of the world she is in, this can happen without her even knowing it. The other possibility involves your ex. When you say ‘locked out’, what notice do you receive? Is it password related? Did you link your phone number or email to your WeChat account? Good luck with this. We’re not sure how your local provider can help but we hope you can work this out. Thanks for commenting.

      2. if you are only using it to comunicate with your daughter, then try qq instead. qq is much less strict

  6. Hey, I try to change my phone number and when I do it says “Account may be compromised” and it won’t do it. I read you answer about needing the email but when I try that it says “Cannot send email verification. Please try again.” Please help!

    1. Do you have an email account linked to your WeChat account? If not, there is nothing you can do. Remember that you have to have a linked email account before you can unlink your current linked phone number. If you haven’t unlinked your phone number, you can’t link a new one. We’re not sure why WeChat can’t send email verification, only that you might have made a small error in entering your address. Good luck with this. Thanks for commenting.

  7. I have forgotten my wechat password. It has no linked email address. The linked phone is no longer in use (moved to china and its an old phone).
I’ve tried the wechat recovery password but it is broken – there are not enough spaces to even enter in my full name. So it is useless. I have emailed their support twice but still no response.
I still remember my ID, and the number it was linked to – but have no way to reset my password. Please help

    1. There is nothing you can do. Think of it this way. If we knew your ID and your phone number, we could do the same thing, right? We could try to get your password reset. Jealous boyfriends, nosy partners, anyone could do the same thing. It’s not a fault with WeChat. They are just doing what they promise to do, protect your account. Open another account and keep track of your password, that’s the only solution. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  8. I have reported someone…and oneday wechat team reply like this..your report successful!!you report about ??? Have been reviewed and resolved.thank for report…another question what happens at him account

    1. We’re not sure what happens. Perhaps the account will be suspended temporarily or permanently. If the user has only been reported once, we don’t think that WeChat will suspend the account. If they receive more than one report, they might. You have done what you thought was right. Let WeChat does what it thinks is right. Thanks for commenting.

  9. How to unblock the account frozen? I tried many time still can’t log in .. I remember my password but still can log in .. i follow a few step for unblock my account but still get a same result ..

    1. Try contacting WeChat support. That’s about all you can do. Sorry but we not affiliated with WeChat, we just try to help people. Thanks for commenting.

    1. Reboot your phone or delete some material from your storage. Make sure your WeChat version is up to date. We think that your phone doesn’t have enough room to cache the photos or videos in Moments. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

        1. We’ve always advised NOT to use BlueStacks. Several readers have lost their WeChat accounts because they used this app. Thanks for commenting.

    1. We are not WeChat, just so you know. If WeChat has no way to verify that the account is yours, there is nothing you can do. Imagine that someone knew your WeChat ID and asked WeChat to let them recover your account. You would not want WeChat to do that, right? If you don’t remember your password and WeChat has no way to verify who you are, your account is lost. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  10. Hi there, I am from Italy. Something quite strange happens to my account. I have noticed that everytime I change my status, I stop being visible to the people nearby, also for 2 or 3 days consecutively. I am positively sure of that, because I have also another iphone with another WeChat account, and when I press “people nearby” none of them is able to “see” the other one in the “people nearby” list. Why is that? is it maybe because I had posted some nude pics in the Moments section? But why hasn’t the account been frozen then? I still can exchange messages with all the guys in my contact list, but nobody can see me within the “people nearby” list. Anyway, now I have deleted all the compromising pics in the Moments section, so I hope I will be visible again soon

      1. Well, I must say I was hopin’ for a more detailed answer. Like for instance, if you think WeChat may actually block the outside visibility of a particular account as a measure of partial freezing…

        1. A more detailed answer? You yourself said you posted ‘nude pics’ to your Moments, right? Once you do something like that, who knows what WeChat will do. Depending on the type of photo you posted, this might be out of WeChat’s hands entirely. It is possible that your local law enforcement might be involved. We’re not WeChat but we suspect that they are responsive to reports that they receive from their app’s user base including anyone who might have complained to them about your photos.

  11. Hi just wanna ask. If i change my sim card, what will happen to the people i blocked in wechat? Will they be unblocked automatically or it will still be blocked after changing the sim card? Please do reply. Thank u.

    1. The blocking is all done within Snapchat, not your sim. As long as you use the same WeChat account, your block list will remain the same. Remember to back up your contact list before you change your sim or phone. Thanks for commenting.

  12. As I was a guest lecturer at the University of Shanghai last week, I joined WeChat to stay in touch with my Chinese colleagues.
When I signed up, I could not use the sms verification as I did not receive the sms message, so I chose the verification code via phone call.
Now, for some reason (logged in via unofficial app, not done by me), my account is blocked and needs to be recovered. But this can ONLY be done via sms. Is there any way to also do this via a phone call?

    1. No, not if your account is blocked. You can try to use the same phone number as your first verification but it looks like WeChat will only use SMS. We’d suggest to start fresh. Thanks for commenting.

  13. Im from palestine (+970) which is not listed on the country list of wechat. Befor we can enter rhe county code and was working fine …now my account is set to protected status and i cannot receive the verification sms.

    Any suggestion??

    Regards

    1. That’s a tough one. We’re not sure what protected status really is since we’ve never been in that situation. Maybe someone else who reads this can help you. Sorry but good luck and thanks for commenting.

  14. i cant log in my wechat acount i knw my wechat id and pasword and phone number but i cant log in its showing your acount is logged in some where how can i log in my acount pls help me 🙁

    1. It seems that someone else knows your ID and password. That’s all we can think of as a solution. Normally, if we’re logged in on our tablet we can then log in on another device. All that happens is the first device, the tablet let’s say, is automatically logged out. In order to use WeChat on it again, we have to sign in with our password. Sorry we couldn’t help further. Thanks for commenting.

  15. actually I use my friend’s device , then she just uninstall it (wechat) without log out my account..after that I try to log in wechat in my phone but it was not working , it just had a sentence like “your id is logged in else where” how can I solve this problem? please help me

    1. That’s a tough one. If your friend really did uninstall WeChat, that in itself would sign you out of the account. We can only assume that your account is active somewhere, just as WeChat says it is. You don’t have to log out to delete the app. Why not have her install WeChat again and sign into your account? Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  16. Hi…i have problem with my wechat account…when i log in, nobody can see my ID when they look around…how can i solve this problem? Do i have been blocked or what?

    1. It could be several things. Maybe your location is turned off, maybe you haven’t enabled the People Nearby feature, things like that. You haven’t been blocked but we suspect that you haven’t set up your options correctly. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  17. So i had to recover my account on my new phone but after a week i forgot my password and had to rest it and now it says im in a protected status but i wont let me reset account since ive already used this phone before to recover it

    1. Seems like you’ve lost your account. Two recoveries in one week would make WeChat think that someone is hacking into your account. Give it some time and try again. Good luck. Sorry we can’t think of a better solution for you. Thanks for commenting.

  18. Hi, I have a new phone and I cannot login to my Weichat account as I’ve forgotten the password.
I try the Password Retrieval process, I know my Weichat ID, I know my mobile number, I enter the captacha code, and then I receive an SMS verification code. I input this code, and then it asks for my “full name” and “official ID”
The box in the official ID says ‘citizen/passport/drivers licence’; I put in my drivers licence number as this is what I used for registration.
The next screen asks for “enter previous password (optional)”, I don’t know my password, so I click next.
The next screen shows “sorry, retrieval unsuccessful, receipt ID 97826830”

I try again but the same result above, and then I’m locked out until tommorrow. Can you please help me? Thanks

    1. Are you in China? We’ve never had any online app ask for our official ID. The only people who could use that information would be identity thieves who phish for information. The only thing that we can think of is to contact the WeChat Security Center. While we’ve never had much luck with contacting WeChat, they persist in asking users to contact their security center with these issues. Lastly, we would never use any personal ID, no matter what the app asks for as proof of who we are. Unless you are in China, we can’t believe that the real WeChat app would ask for that information. Our guess is that you’ve downloaded a fake app or your phone has been hacked. Good luck with this and let us know how it turns out. Thanks for commenting.

      1. I was using the real Weichat app on iPhone. In Australia. Alot of my friends use the same app. Ok i will contact Weichat again but they are not responding. Thanks for your help anyway

        1. Good luck with this. We can’t imagine that WeChat would want to know your personal details though. We’re checking with friends in China to see if this would ever happen there. We still think you’ve got malware on your phone, some kind of identity theft hack. We’ll update this when we get our answer. Be careful!

          1. Hi, I can now log into Wechat. Instead of trying to do what I mentioned before, i tried to login using a different method. On the login page, I select “more”, and then select “Switch Account”, then select “Phone”. It asks for phone number and password, which i don;t know. But at the bottom it has an option to “log in via SMS”. I select this option and with a few extra steps I can now log in.
All resolved. Thanks for your help anyway, although I feel the login options should be redesigned so it’s clearer and easier for people to understand.

          2. We’re glad to hear it worked out for you. You’re right, WeChat’s options and menus are not user-friendly at all. Additionally, there is not much documentation. Then again, it’s a free app. We can’t expect much, when you think about it. Maybe your explanation will help others in the same situation. Thanks for the update!

  19. Hi there.my account that i log in before is the correct password but anytime i open it can’t. It say “account and password wrong” how can i fix it.

    1. It looks like your account has been hacked and the password has been changed. Did you link a phone number or email address to it? If you didn’t do that, we think you have lost your account. Good luck anyway. Thanks for commenting.

  20. When I try to unlink my phone number it says ‘account may be compromised’ what should I do? I done linked my facebook too

    1. You have to link your email address before you can unlink your phone number, at least that is what we have discovered in our tests. Linking Facebook has nothing to do with account security. Try linking a real email address to your account, follow through with the verification process and then unlink your phone number and link the new one. Good luck! Make sure you take screenshots of your contact list in case you lose your account somehow. Thanks for commenting.

        1. Maybe someone has tried to hack your account. First, change your password. Second, unlink your current email address, if you have one linked now. Lastly, link your phone number and a new email address, not the one you tried previously. Good luck! Let us know if you need more help. Thanks for commenting.

          1. hello, it said Invalid Email Address when i tried to link it to an email. what can i do? thank you

          2. Check your spelling. When it tells you an email address is invalid, it means it doesn’t recognize the part after the ‘@’ symbol. Maybe there is an errant punctuation mark or a mark that’s missing. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  21. hi there i accidentally update my phone software then i download new we chat app and trying to log in my id but this time i got message your id is logged in elsewhere, i can’t access any solutions? Please help me

    1. All you can do is make sure your account isn’t signed in on any other device. If you only used one device then we don’t know what the problem is. WeChat can only be logged in from one location or device at a time. If you have installed any third party apps or are using Bluestacks, that might be the problem too. Sorry we can’t help you more than this but thanks for commenting.

  22. Hello I have downloaded wechat but I can’t install it because every time I try it always says phone number is invalid. What should I do to get sign up. Please help.!

    1. Use a QQ account or use an email account. Also, check that your country code is supported by WeChat and that you are entering the number correctly. We haven’t encountered this problem before. Good luck! Thanks for commenting.

  23. today someone hacked my wechat and send all my wechat friends bad words and i dont know what can i do.I registred with my facebook. Can you help me?

    1. There’s not much you can do if they have hijacked your account. Get a new profile and contact as many friends as you can to tell them your old account was hacked. We’re sure your real friends will understand your situation. Thanks for commenting. By the way, two of our WordPress sites were hacked from Russian IP addresses so it seems this activity is fairly common. Thanks for commenting.

  24. all i’m missing are my contact on wechat,i cnt login and each time i get to try loggin in my new phone,it shows this message’ account loged in somewhere else…what am i gonna do pls.

    1. Your account is logged in on your old phone, that’s what it looks like to us. If you can’t retrieve your old phone then there is nothing you can do. Sorry. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

    1. Not unless you have a phone number or email linked to your account. If you don’t, you cannot recover your WeChat account. Thanks for commenting.

  25. My wechat account is banned permanently and i cant recover it ,any way i can get it back? Even if i try to create a new one and it shows that my hp number is already registered

    1. You can’t get your old account back but if you register with an email address or with QQ you can open another one. Good luck. Thanks for commenting.

  26. My phone was disabled and I had to restore it. The process erased all data, which were not backed up. I wasn’t able to get to my WeChat account, which treats me as a new user. How do I access to my account? Thanks.

    1. Unless you have a phone number or email address linked to your old account, you can’t get it back. It’s not the data that gets you into your account, it’s your account number or phone number or email address and password that get you in. We can move from device to device with our account, even on a completely new device, and gain access to our account with our account number and password. There’s no reason why that shouldn’t work for you, too. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

      1. Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I do not have a phone number or email address linked to my old account. All I have is the WeChat ID. Does that mean it is gone forever?

  27. Every time i want to log in to my wechat It always says my account is compromised and i have to like recover it .And it is stated ‘Only one WeChat account can be recovered per phone number ‘
i already used 2 different phones to recover it twice and i don’t want it to happen the 3rd time. Im using WeChat on my PC with bluestacks . I recieved a message that this wechat is non-official version . I have no idea what it means i only went to playstore and just download wechat. how is that non-official -_-

    1. What they mean is that using WeChat through Bluestacks, an app that isn’t supported by WeChat. Thanks for commenting.

  28. For long know, I can’t login my Wechat account on my blackberry z10 cause it keeps telling me your account as been set to protected status due to prolong inactivity . Update your version and try again. I’ve deleted it and download another one, I’ve even updated my phone version to 10.3 and it still keeps telling me the same thing.whats the solution?

    1. We don’t know much about Blackberry devices. If your device won’t accept the latest version of WeChat then you won’t be able to use that app. As devices age, they lose the ability to stay updated. WeChat changes versions in order to keep up to date with security protection for its clients. Try signing in on another device. You could also try going to the app store you use while WeChat is already installed on your device. Search for WeChat. You might see ‘Update App’ instead of ‘Install’. At that point you would know there is an update and you can install it. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  29. hmmm .. my friend used my account , he change the password and he already forgot the password .. moreover,
telephone number I used when registering an
account that I use, now I do not use that phone
number again .. can help me? I really need that account..
    thanks

    1. It’s gone. Unless your friend can remember the password, you have lost your account. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  30. I use Sumsung 7′ pad, down load WeChat from Play Store. then sign on a WeChat account. It works fine. But next day when touch the WeChat icon, it let me to relogin When I put in WeChat ID and password it showed info following:
Your account is logged in via an unofficial version of WeChat. For your security, your account has bee set to “protected” status. Please click OK to verify your account your account and try logging in again.

even I did uninstall/reinstall WeChat, it still show that message?

    1. Which PlayStore? The official Google one? We have WeChat on the same pad, version 3, and it works perfectly. Unless we sign out or sign in on another device, it never asks for our password. You’be downloaded something that is foreign to WeChat. Reset your device to factory settings and start again. That’s the only solution we can offer, sorry. Thanks for commenting.

      1. I tried to login other WeChat account, looks work fine. Just new account bond with a simple mobile phone (not smartphone) has the problem? is that problem? can I sign up a new account without a phone number (use email)?

        1. Yes, you can sign up with an email account. It might be easier to use QQ to sign up but any email account will work. Good luck. Thanks for commenting.

  31. Hi. My wechat keeps banning me too. It says mine is the unofficial version and is protected. After I unban my account, everything works well for a while like a day, and the next day, the same message apears. I have uncovered my account many times because the message keeps appearing. I am running out of recovery phone numbers too. I have a windows phone, so there is no official wechat available. What should I do? Sorry for the spelling errors. Thanks

    1. There isn’t much you can do except switch to Android or iOS. If you don’t use 3G/4G very much, you can get a device that will run the official version of WeChat for a reasonable price. You’d be limited to a WiFi connection but that may be sufficient for you. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  32. I first installed wechat in the US but I went on vacation in china. Thing is a week after I got the protected account thing. Then I fixed it with my phone number 5 minutes later I got blocked again. So I made a new account same thing happened I even borrowed a friends number to reset my account. Didn’t work ended up fixing it for less than a day. And third account was made and guess what banned within 5 minutes of making the account. Any suggestions I downloaded wechat and only wechat.

    1. Something happened in China, it appears. Copy your contact list by hand if you can get at it. Use screencaps or something similar. Reset your device to factory specs, maybe do that a few times, and then download WeChat. Sign up for a new account and copy the contacts back to it. Obviously you would want to do this outside of China but that is probably the case anyway. Something triggered inside WeChat, we have no idea what, and it seems your account is being automatically banned or closed. Good luck. Thanks for commenting.

  33. bluestacks is an android emulator. registering for wechat on bluestacks still requires a phone number, however, every time i register with wechat on blue stacks, theyve canceled my account. it wasnt always this way. my accounts registered via bluestacks worked up until last year without any problems. for some reason, wechat is blacklisting logins from bluestacks, but i dont like using my phone to chat because it uses my batteries, so im back to qq again.

    1. WeChat updates its policies quite frequently. They can block any apps that sidestep their restrictions. We always recommend that readers not use Bluestacks but many still do. We’ve never noticed that WeChat is a battery hog so maybe there is something else that’s doing that. Check your app’s usage stats. Otherwise, it might be time for a new phone. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  34. When I try to shake my phone I am unable get friends its shows not match found try again.
Can you please tell me why its happen and how much time I will take for recover.please help me.

    1. We don’t know why this happens. Maybe you have used Shake too often, maybe your phone’s motion sensor is broken, we’re not sure. Open your account on another device then check if Shake works. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  35. I use to log in with my phone number , did have some techically issues with the wechat server and wechat stop work now that i am back again i see all my contacts gone have i accidentally created a new account however i have used the same nubmer please i could have some help the same it would be appreciated

    1. You shouldn’t have been able to create a new WeChat account using your old number. Was that number linked to your old account? Try logging into your old account. What technical issues? You cannot carry contacts from one WeChat account to another. We’re not sure what happened, to be honest. Good luck! Thanks for commenting.

    1. We are not WeChat, we just try to help people. Thanks for commenting and good luck.

  36. I have update my mobile to lolipo android. now i am not able to log into we chat. I forgot the password. When i send recover password it send me the code to registered number but even if I use that code it is not loggin in

    1. Sorry, these situations are commonplace. The key is to have a backup email or phone number, which you seem to have, and to remember your password. You can log into WeChat several ways but you have to make sure you’ve got all of your bases covered. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  37. Hello, how can i reset password’s wechat via email because i used acount wechat by ID i just remember id but i don’t remember password, i try to reset it they said to me used reset via email linked but i use the system sait that Email adddress does not exist. Please help me. Thanks

    1. How did you register for WeChat? What did you use? You have to use something such as an email address, a mobile phone number, a QQ account, maybe Facebook. You can’t just sign up with no means of contact. You have to use whatever method you used to sign up for WeChat to get a password reset request. There’s no other way. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  38. So….

Today i had a new system installed, somewhat against my will. Now I need to reinstall everything, including WeChat.

    However….

I can no longer access my wechat account.

I did not lose my phone, nor did I change my number. I was using wechat perfectly happily earlier today.

Now, of course, I can’t log in. I haven’t done anything. It’s the same phone number as ever.

I have no idea whatsoever what my password is/was because I used it once, more than a year ago. I cannot recover my account via this number. I hae no idea whatsoever which email address I migt have used.

    I have around 300 contacts….

    This is bad

    1. What happens when you use the ‘forgot password’ prompt? WeChat will send a code to your phone or an email to the address on file. It works, we’ve done it before to test the system. Don’t panic, that’s the main thing. Think your way through the password recovery system and you will be able to get your account back. Use the ‘login using SMS’ screen if it is offered. All of this will only work if you have linked your phone number to your WeChat account. If you haven’t linked your phone or email to WeChat, there’s no way to recover your account without your password, at least not as far as we know. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out. Thanks for commenting.

      1. I’m not having any success with that.

I’m almost certain it was attached to this phone number, but I lost my phone around a year ago.

        1. Without something that is linked to the account and without a password, there is really nothing you can do. Look at it this way, how does WeChat know that you are you? Maybe you are trying to hack/steal/grab someone’s account. As far as they know, you’re a stranger even though it is your account. With certain social media and email sites, you can get your account back by going through some security checks but, unfortunately, WeChat either can’t or won’t set that up for its users. We hope you can work your way through it somehow. For anyone who reads this, please ensure that you keep an up to date record of ALL your passwords. We’ve described ways to do that several times using encryption and DrobBox. Good luck and sorry we couldn’t help further.

  39. I tried for recovering my restricted we chat account. first time i was able to but from second time i am always getting an error saying phone number is not available, pleaae try a new. why I. am gettin this?? My phone num is valid.

    1. Maybe it is restricted permanently. If your account was restricted once, maybe WeChat gave you a second change. Once you were restricted again, maybe they said that’s enough and blocked you completely. That’s a guess, we’re not affiliated with WeChat in any way. Thanks for commenting.

  40. my account has been restrict..i cant recover back bcoz i dont remember the phone number i use to create a account…it is possible to me get my account back??solution please

  41. I accidently created a new account with the same cell number, I don’t remember my password, both accounts should link to the same number, which could be the problem.
When I tried to reset the password for the old account via phone number, I DO get the verification code, but after I put in the code, it says there is nothing linked to this phone number.
When I tried to recover my old account, it complains my number is not valid, use a new number.
    What is your suggestion?

    1. As far as we know, you can’t register with the same phone number. It seems that you have confused the system somehow. Looks like you’ll have to start from scratch. It doesn’t make sense that you can’t recover at least one of your accounts though. You’ve tried everything that we would suggest. All we can wish you is good luck and thank you for commenting.

      1. I did use blue stacks once then i loged out of wechat then uninstalled wechat then uninstalled blue stacks

        1. If you registered with WeChat using Bluestacks, you don’t have any connection with WeChat. It was actually Bluestacks that registered with WeChat, right? Reset your phone and register with a new profile. Don’t use Bluestacks. Good luck.

      2. Hi i am using blue stack. face the same problem. I follow the steps to recover my account. However when i reach to the step of submit the phone number. it showed “this number is not available, please try a new one”

any one here facing this issue also.

        1. Anything that occurred because you used Bluestacks is out of WeChat’s hands. You don’t know what phone number that Bluestacks used when you registered. Maybe they used a one-time code instead of a real number. You may have given your phone number to Bluestacks but you don’t know if that is the number that they gave to WeChat. Maybe someone reading your question can comment. We’ll pass it on.

  42. i got this error message “Invalid phone number. Please enter a new one.” which phone number i need to use, i already registered my contact number but i only got the error only please help me

    1. Something is wrong with the way you are entering the number. That’s what it seems like to us anyway. Make sure your country code is correct. If you have linked your number to WeChat successfully, there shouldn’t be a problem. If it doesn’t work, try using your linked email account. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  43. it says “your current wechat version may be compromised” then wechat server blocking my acc.. i try to recover but every phone number that i used, invalid.. what should i do??

    1. It seems that you have picked up a virus or you are using something other than the real WeChat software. You can only recover your account by using the phone number that you linked to your WeChat account, otherwise anyone could steal it. Start from scratch. Delete WeChat and any other helper apps, reset your phone then download the real WeChat and try to log in. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to start a new profile. That’s all we can suggest. Good luck and thanks for commenting.

  44. My country of registration is not appearing on the Account Recovery ,how am i supposed to received the verification code
